Course Descriptions for Tuesday Workshops:
-
Lunch: Cost is $6.00 per person per day. Lunch
will be done at the PE Dept. where you can swim, weight lift, ride an exercise
bike or a treadmill. You can also participate in a Swing dance lesson
on Tuesday and Self-Defense on Wednesday. Menu includes Subway Sandwiches,
fruit, fresh vegetables, drinks (soda, water, juice) and snacks.

ETUDES course management software - This workshop
will cover the ETUDES software from the perspective of the student and
the teacher. It will teach how to post information, create discussion
areas and tests and send private message. To get the most out of
this workshop, contact the instructor in advance, get your ETUDES shell
made so you can start to build your own classroom and bring a course syllabus,
a lesson plan, a list of Internet resources, a quiz and two assignments.

First Aid - This workshop will cover emergency action
preparedness, responding to accidents and sudden illness. Wear comfortable
clothing and be prepared to work with a partner to do skills.

Lose Weight Now! - Program will discuss why people
are not losing weight. Discussion will include different weight loss
programs (Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach, etc.). Does counting
calories help? Learn the secret to successful permanent weight loss.
Two years ago Dr. Maina lost 80 lbs in 4 months and two years later has
maintained that weight loss. Come learn how Dr. Maina did it!

Creating Forms With MS Word - This presentation will
allow hands on experience in using MS Word to creat forms with input fields.
These forms can be placed on the web for downloading. Information
can be typed in and the form can be returned via email.

Super Sizing - Nousheen Afshani of the California
Nutrition Network will be presenting a work shop on Super Sizing—the politics
behind the end of super sizing, response of the fast food industry, including
new menu items, and attempts to answer the question “Is possible to include
fast food in a healthy diet” and the effects of super sizing, foods, soda,
fast foods, trends and profit margins.

Managing Effective Meetings - covers the effective
organization of meetings, setting agendas that reflect both the committee's
resources and mission and managing the various personalities of the participants.

paradise of animal and plant life. Come see and hear exhibits of
this beautiful and welcoming ecologically wise country. It is a truly
peaceful environment which refreshes the body as well as the spirit.

Profession Conduct for Exceptional Teamwork - Course
objectives are: a) The improtance of Workplace relationship & teamwork
b) Understanding individual differences c) Learning why people do
what they do d) Developing self-awareness and other awareness
e) Increasing effective communication & people skills

Public Speaking for Wallflowers - Quick lessons
in becoming a more competent communicator; includes speech organization,
delivery modes and delivery styles. Participants present a brief
impromptu speech in the session.

Impatica Software - This workshop will teach how
to use Impatica software to compress PowerPoint files and post them to
the World Wide Web where they will stream without the need for the user
to download a reader. Bring a small PowerPoint presentation with
you on a floppy if you'd like. If not, you'll be given a floppy with
a PPT file. PowerPoint competency not required for this workshop.

Course Descriptions for Wednesday Workshops:

CPR - This workshop will teach proper response to choking
for conscious and unconscious situations, breathing emergencies, and heart
attacks. Wear comfortable clothing to get onto the ground to work
on CPR manikins and interact with others in the class.

Saving Time Through Technology - This presentation will
show you how to integrate the latest technologies into your classroom.
You will learn how to set up on-line assignments, quizzes, PowerPoint notes
and more. This hands-on workshop is sponsored by Title V Learning Communities
and Staff Development.

Auto Maintenance and You - This workshop wil help men
and women learn how to care for their car by checking tires, fluid levels
and knowing when to do routine maintenance. His is a hands-on-workshop.

Learning Communities; A new way to learn, a new way to
teach! - This presentation will introduce you to LATTC Title V Learning
Communities, an innovative student success program. Join our staff and
instructors
to develop your own Learning Community in this interactive, hands-on
workshop.

Math Editor Software for MS Word - This workshop focus
on learning about Math Type, a software that allows you to insert equations
into your text for such course as Chemistry, Physics and Math.

Healthy Cooking - Matt Ruscigno, RD, MPH
will be presenting a workshop on healthy cooking and will answer your nutrition
questions.

Grades, Rossters, Exclusions through the World Wide
Web - This workshop will cover how to access the LACCD computer to get
class rosters, exclude students and post grades through the WWW.
These skills can be done from home and provide up-to-the minute information
and status on these functions.

Digital Cameras - This workshop will cover the basic
functions of a digital camera and allow participants to take some photos,
download them, and do basic editing features of Photoshop Elements 2.0.
(Software is available for a cost of $25.00 if downloaded from the Adobe
Online Software web site.)

PowerPoint for Beginners - This hands-on-workshop will
teach the basics of building a PowerPoint presentation.

Instructor Homepages - Create your own Instructor
Homepage in this workshop and upload a course syllabus so it links to the
online schedule of classes. Bring a floppy with your course syllabi
on it for the summer or fall semester. Syllabi should be in MS Word
or PDF or html format.

Students for the Future - Can high school graduates successfully undertake
