Setting the Nickname as the "From" Email Address
Purpose: This tutorial will show you how to
- Establish your Email nickname as your "From" address
- Compose an email message that shows the nickname as the "From" address
1. Log Into Your Account using the http://mail.student.lattc.edu address or if you are already logged into the start.student.lattc.edu page, just click on student email. Remember you must always use your full student ID number to log into MyLATTC Portal at any of the entrance points. You can not log in using your nickname.
2. Select the email settings link next to your email id:
3. Select the Accounts Tab:
4. Select the Add another email address link:
5. Select the option to specify a different "reply to" address:
6. Type the nickname that you previously established into both boxes and then click on save:

7. You will then see a message that tells you to return to your Inbox and look for the email that was just sent to your nickname. Open that email and click on the link to VERIFY that your nickname is a valid email id. This step is mandatory and must be done without waiting several days. Click on the button "Send Verification." Once you click on the link in your email, you will get a confirmation message indicating success.
Remember you will always need to log in using your full student ID number and not your nickname.
8. When you compose a new message and you want your nickname to show as the sender, you will need to select it as the FROM address by using the drop down menu option. See example below.
Or you can make the nickname the DEFAULT setting by following one additional step.
9. Repeat Steps #2 and #3 above to take you to the Accounts Setting. Then make the nickname your default setting by clicking on the word default. See example below with red arrow pointing to the link you need to click on:

Now each time you compose mail you will have the option of showing the From address as your student id. This might be advantageous or necessary to do at some time. For example, when sending email to your instructor or the campus registrar. It is also possible that some email spam filters will require you to send email from your real account name instead of your nickname. You will have this option.
