Instructor: Coach Joe Ratcliff

Summer 2003

Description of classes:

PE 101

Beginner swimmer is for those students who have little to no experience in the water. In this class we will teach you to be comfortable in the water, how to be safe in and around the pool, how to float, breath, kick in the following strokes: Freestyle, Backstroke, Elementary Backstroke, and how to do the Scissors kick and Butterfly kick. The student also learns how to jump and dive into the water as well as how to tread water.

PE 102

Advanced swimmer is for those students who have either passed PE 101 or have some previous swimming experience. In this class we will review pool safety and advance your skills in the Freestyle, Backstroke, and Elementary Backstroke. You will then learn the complete Sidestroke and Butterfly and learn how to swim the Breaststroke. We also will advance your diving skills, your ability to tread water and teach you how to do the Eggbeater kick.

Students with disabilities who need any assistance or accommodations should contact the instructor. The DSPS office (X035) is available to assist in accommodating a disabled student.
