Health 12: Safety Education & First Aid - 3 Units
Instructor: Linda Delzeit

Course Description:

This course follows the American National Red Cross Program of first aid and CPR. Instruction includes the immediate care given to a person who has been injured or has suddenly taken ill. Lifesaving procedures include rescue breathing and CPR for infants, children, and adults. Successful completion will lead to Red Cross certification in Community First Aid and Safety plus CPR for the Professional Rescuer.

Class section and times:

1333 - 8:35 to 10:00 am Instructor Office and Office hours: Pool office - MW from 10am to 1 pm; T, Th, F from 6:30 am to 8 am
                    Virtual Office hours: MW from 7-9 am

Special meetings can be arranged by request

Students with disabilities who need any assistance or accommodations should contact the instructor. The DSPS office (X035) is available to assist in accommodating a disabled student.

Being prepared for class meetings:

You should wear clothing appropriate for kneeling, sitting, or even laying on the ground to perform some of the skills with a partner. You should wash your hands prior to and after each class session. You should be to class on time each day as we start promptly. There is much material to be covered in this class and attendance is critical. Bring paper, pen/pencil, and your book to each class meeting..

Grading:

Grades are awarded on total points obtained during the semester. Points are given for attendance, completed assignments, and for skills testing. Assisting the instructor with teaching the regular swimming classes can be done to make-up days out of the water.
